Week 1 Curation

Since i used Google Chrome, I try to use different extensions for my home page to organize everything. As of now, I am using IncrediStartPage to organize bookmarks, history, and popular websites I use in one place. I never been to big on Pinterest or twitter since i know i would abuse it. I have not heard of known until today. It sounds pretty interesting and I probably read more on it before I try it . keeping track information online is pretty easy for me. It is not getting distracted by you tube videos, Facebook, or forum sites like Reddit that is hard.I would love to organize stuff better but making sure my bookmarks is the last thing in mind so i tend to forget to. One way of getting organized is using extensions for your browser. They can add and rearrange the way your  notepads, calendars, and bookmarks are displayed on your browser. Opening A Facbook page or any way to increase the way the students in this way can interact with each other would go well in creating a good curation-and-sharing-experience.

Growth Mindset

I have never heard Carol Dweck and her mindset before but i thought it was pretty enlightening. It reminded about this post on Reddit I read a couple months ago about a father who would praise his son not for his kid's smarts of strength but for  their hard work. When I transferred to OU my growth mindset dipped alot. I realized during summer classes I started to make more time for studying and that helped me organize time for school, helping family and friends, working out, and practicing basketball. The first thing I learned at OU was that time is the most valuable thing. Scheduling what you need to get done and what you want to do is the by far the most important thing for a college student. I would love to learn more about growth mindset and start activated. The fact that i can improve myself is always welcomed with open arms. I like the reading and writing challenges because they want us to explore new ways to do these tasks. Right now my goal is to find the perfect balance for school, studying for the MCAT, working out, practicing sports, and hanging with friends, Im not worried about any class this semester just studying the MCAT.

Storybook Favorites

There were three story books that stood out the first one was "Onboard the Spaceshop PushPaka."  The title grabbed my attention because i never expected any of the stories to relate to outer space. The introduction was well written. He or She set the setting for the story. I thought the author was very clever by telling using the conversation between the captain and Milo as a way to tell the story. The blog it self was a little plain. The combination of the long text and the plain design made the story itself seem a little long. However, the pictures used help illustrate the setting.

The second story, Food and Culture: An Indian Scrapbook, was my favorite. Among the list of titles, it was not so much out there as it was a topic that was left untouched. The introduction conveys the authors passion for food and traveling, personality, and how she will relate it to " Ramayan"  really well. The overall design of the blog was very inviting.  The fonts and the warm colors used by the Authors works really well with her topic. The pictures of food on both her front page and Introduction also helped with over presentation by making the page feel more homey.

The last story , Darkness Diaries,  was my least liked. i felt like it was little cliche and overdone. It was bad by it was just least favorite of the three. The page template was cool by it did not really match the title "darkness diaries" too much. The story it self was good but I think the title Darkness diaries could be done better since i think its only referring to the demons as dark. The title gave off that there would be dark and cruel events in the diary but nothing that bad happened.

Overview

I have always found epic literature interesting. Though I have never had a class that was solely based upon epics, however, in my classes we read numerous epics by Homer like Oedipus. These types of stories tell of Greek tragedies that include beasts like Cerberus, gods like Zeus, and heroes like Hercules. I also like reading epic series written by Percy Jackson. These books were always so intriguing to me because they let you see a world that can not be experienced. These books let my imagination soar to new heights. My school never had any classes that taught specifically about Indian culture. They only taught us about important Indian figures like Gandhi. One thing that always surprised me was that my school was about thirty percent Indian.   So, growing up as a second generation Immigrant I was always surrounded by Indian music, films, and dances. I always liked Indian dances and music because it was different compared to other cultures dances and musics. Bollywood movies are entertaining, but it usually consists of love stories about a forbidding love,  My family is mostly Indian except for a few people who married in. The funny thing is that even though my family is really Indian. The language my parents primarily speak ,Malayalam, never stuck with me.  I have been to India three times. Once when I was a baby, second time when I was around ten, and the third time when I was fifteen. I like visiting India because it is such a different experience. The food is fresh, mouthwatering, and it smells is always like it just rained.   The last time we went we left drove out of Kerala and visited a few churches and temples. One specific temple we visited was Madras. The way the temple was made and the decorations all over it the reminds me of the pictures of Indian epics.

Introduction

Hello! My name is Davis. I like doing a lot of things. One of my biggest hobbies is playing basketball. This first started when I was eight years old and my parents signed me up for a pee wee basketball team. Even though we were not the best team, we had a great time playing ball. Another hobby I like doing is working out, Its a great way to shift away from studying. It makes you self push to your physical limits and allows you to grow past them.

Music is one thing in my life I cant live without. When i was ten years old, I was burning CDs and listening to my walkman all day. During that time I only listened to three different bands and artists. My favorite was the Red Hot Chili Peppers, specifically their song Snow and Under the Bridge. The other musicians I listen too was Eminem and Linkin park.

I transferred to University of Oklahoma to study Biochemistry, Since I kid, I have always dreamed what I would do when I grow up. At first I wanted to astronaut then I wanted  to be a vet. Now I have fully set my sights on becoming a doctor. There was really two things that put me on this course. For one, you got to help people. I think that people always deserve two chances and your contributions can give a person a second chance at everything he or she has ever done. Secondly, I always loved taking things apart when I was kid. What ever it was my toys, my brothers stuff, or my dads tools I wanted to see how they worked. In my eyes, the most complicated thing that we have is us. I really want two see just how everything works. How our nerves tell our brains to move, how we feel and everything else we do.

Week 1: StoryTelling

Snoop Dogg and the Young Man
(An Interpretation of The Lion and the Gladfly)

There was man known as Snoop Dogg who also went by the Snoop Lion. Through many hardships and endeavors, the world thought as him as the pinnacle of all mankind. Snoop Dogg was relaxing in the land of milk and honeys in Orange County, California. He was sipping on some gin and juice on the porch of his mansion. As soon as Snoop finally began to relax, his phone began to rang. “I wonder who is hitting me up this late at night,”  he said. He picked it up, and he didn’t recognize the voice. “I’m so sorry,” the man said. After a long drawn out conversion, Snoop found out that this punk kid hotwired his Lamborghini Murcielago and totaled it. Snoop called his crew, and they brought the young man to his place. Snoop Dogg then roared, “Young blood, I could do anything to you and no one would bat an eye! So what do you think I should do to you? ”  “Snoop, If let me go. I’ll do every in my power to help your career thrive,” cried the young man. “How could such a powerless man help me? Regardless I like your flow. You may join my crew” said Snoop dogg in confident voice.

A couple months later, Snoop dogg has been blowing up countless cities with his dope rhymes. Tired and exhausted, he retired back to his room and dozed off. Unknowing to him, the police were planning a raid. The police knew Snoop Dogg liked his ganja and plenty of it. With him in their hands, they could take down the whole marijuana drug trade in California.

A couple hours later Snoop awoke, and quickly lit his morning blunt. The young man did his daily duties for Mr. Dogg as he usually did for the past couple of months.  However, today was different. Suddenly the sounds of sirens filled the air. The young man had rushed to Snoop Dogg’s room, but his estate was so large he couldn’t get there in time. He then grabbed the lamborghini and drove as fast he could to Snoop. BOOM! the lamborghini crashed into snoop’s room. “ WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING! I let you go last time but this time you are gonna regret it,“ He yelled. The young man frantically said,  “ Drop that light, the popos are on their way! If you don’t leave they will send you to the pen.” “My homie, you have truly earned my respect,” said Snoop as he got into his chopper quickly entering the chinese airspace.

Favorite Places

                                                                      Nic's Grill

Now there are two things I love most that is my family and food. Nic's grill is located in OKC on classen. The burgers at Nic's Grills is literally the best food that I have ever eaten in my life. Everything about that place makes it amazing. Although the restaurant itself is pretty small, you could go just for the atmosphere. The first time I went there, Nic left an piece extra meat in basket, and I could feel tears of joy and gluttony running down my face. If I had to choose my last meal, it would be a Nics burger, Fries, and a cold Dr. Pepper.

                                                                     Velvet Tacos

It you haven't figured it yet. I am a HUGE foodie. I will eat almost anything as long as it doesn't have beans in it. Beans and I  have never gotten along. The moment I taste it. I just can't finish the meal but that is neither here nor there. Velvet Tacos is located in the heart of Dallas. If your driving down there, this is last place you do not want to miss.  Its cheap and the tacos will make your mouth water. The tacos here are the best tacos you can get in the south. My favorites are the fried oyster taco and the chicken tika taco.

                                                                   Niagara Falls

Surprisingly, this one is not about food. In summer of 2011, my family and I went on a road trip to  Niagara falls. Along the way we hit, St. Louis, New Jersey and New York. I loved exploring these scenic cities and spending some quality with my family. The drive was very long, and I spent most of the time bickering with my brothers. We always fight about everything, so being in a car with them escalated the number of fights. Eventually when we did reach Niagara falls, I was in complete awe of what I saw. Just the sheer size of the waterfall was breathtaking. I had never before seen or heard anything like it. It was like standing in the middle of the busiest airport runway.  I felt as though I was  placed smack dab in the middle of the busiest airport runway..
