Week 10: Reading B

I decided to continue where I left offs since I was only a coupe minutes left over.  I started from around Arjun is morning the death of his son.  From here till the end of the movie, it stays consistently on track with the book.  Even though this movie is completely out of my genre of movies, I did like it. It was entertaining, funny, and had lots action. The biggest thing was that the story stayed on track with book which hard for a lot of movies to do.  Of course so parts had to be excluded out but it alter the course of the story. The movie did have its weird parts. Like at the beginning when Ganesh is talking to Vamikil about sex and the god is using the word “semen” a lot. It was also pretty easy to understand since they used mostly American actors. It would be cool to see a remake. With all the CGI and special effects we have now. The movie could actually do pretty well in the box office. Although a lot of the plot would have to be excluded since it is around 5 hours long and nobody wants to sit in the theater that long.

Week 10: reading A

I rewatched the parts for this reading anf stopped arpund 4:16:23. In my opinion,  the movie is storying pretty consistant with the story. I never thought of this during the reading of mahabharata  but there are alot of sexual implications. I noticed it in reading 1 and first lart of this week but the story is very R rated in language. It is not very balant. Though it is not as aparent as it was in week 1. However the movie doesnt show much nudity, it does imply heavily that thinga are happening in he story.  The movie finally gets into the war between pandavas and duryodhana. The war is actually pretty well done. The scenes are not very confusing thlugh they can be wierd. However, it is not overdone so you can still follow the chacters.  Like week 1 readings some parts from the book were left out. These parts were not really that sognificant to the story so there absence doesnt change any major evenst or introduce plot holes. One thing that i noticed this time read was the qouality of the movie. Even though the movie was made in the late 80s, mobie aged pretty well so the quality is not really an issue.

Week 9: Famous Last Words

Until last week I have been keeping up with the workload for the class. However, this week I forgot to do story telling and ,not mention, I am behind in my project. I am planning on doing all the bonus this week so I can catch up and keep up with extra credit. These past weeks have been so busy. My uncle and aunt are living with me until November. So I have to give up my room because their in retirement I am their personal chauffeur ,on the weekends.Combine this and working around seventeen hours a week, Recently, Integris Baptist called me for an interview for a monitor tech job. The interview went well and I have high hopes for the job. This will be the first non retail place I have worked at and its my first legitimate step into the medical field. While I was waiting for my interview, I was kind of happy to see that I would be working a hospital. It was kind of way to show that goods times are on there way.  Not only that I have huge test in Molecular Biology on Wednesday and Spanish and Sociology test during the first week of November. Also we have to do a group poster assignment in my Spanish class and my group is not really responding to anything. The project is due Wednesday afternoon, so hopefully they will help.  It might sound weird but I love this chaos. Yeah sure my grades will take a small hit but I am always busy and never bored. Right now, My only focus is staying on track and organizing my time the best I can. I have tried agendas and everything under the sun to help me keep track of everything. Yet, I can not ever find anything that will get me into the habit or being more productive.

Week 9: Tech Tip

This tech tip is google chrome exclusive. (Sorry IE and Mozilla users) If you are not aware, Chrome has extension its online store. I have been using extensions to make my internet experience the best for me. From changing white backgrounds on pages to black or customizing your facvorite homepage it is really useful. There is an Extension called incredi Start page. It changes your home to page full of bookmarks, recently closed tabs and most visited websites all in one place. Oh yeah,  it has a notepad so you can copy a quick link whenever, you need too.

Week 9: Curation Spaces

So far we have just finished Mahabharata and like Ramayana,I found out it has its own online movie. Whenever, I read Mahabharata I got never get interested in the story like how I was with Ramayana. Watching this movie cleared up the book up a lot. Of course the movie missed parts here and there but that is not the point. The movie delivered the story Mahabharata in a great manner. I was interested the whole way. I even watched week 1 reading in one sitting without even noticing. Recently, I switched from writing my blogs in word to online word counter. It lets me know if I am using a certain word too much. Since I have not had a chance to write about it browser bookmarks. It helps me keep with the stories and storybooks I like.

Week 9: Growth Mindset

It had been a long time since I have done growth mindset , not to mention any extra credit work. I wanted to use this growth mindset as a way to reflect on myself and how to change. Recently, I began noticing the work quality not only in this class  but my other ones as well drop. So many things have been going on at home, work, and in school I am easy going and take a slow pace but its been a lot worse these last few weeks. Today I started to eat healthier and nightly jogging again. I wont feel a difference I just one day but ,hopefully, by next week I will pumped and full of energy.

Week 9: Reading Diary A

Peter Brook's movie Mahabharata reminds me of the old biblical movies about Moses and Jesus Christ. The movie starts out with Ganeesh, Valmikil, and a child. It starts off like the reading however instead Ganeesh reading its Valmikil. What i like most about this movie is that they did not try to get Indian actors. Coming from an Indian background, An Indian accent with English can sometimes be hard to understand. Using actors of various races makes it easier to listen too. There is one actor though I Think plays multiple parts or has a brother who also in the film. They incorporated the time skips well too using dialogue between Ganeesh and Valmikil to explain whats going on. Peter brooks stayed pretty close to the books rarely ever straying far from it. One example would be the scene of Valmikil, Krishna, and the child.  You can see many stories in Mahabharata being incorporated in the story. Like the gambling match around  1:21:43 when Draupadi is gambled away or around 2:41:25 you can see Draupudi worry about her life because Arjuna has become a dancer and the rest of her husbands are washing rice. One thing I did not like was that in some scenes that stayed consistent in the story should be done differently. There fight scenes where the aggressor would be talking while he is attacking. I think it would been better done if it was narrated so it did not look so awkward. I decided to stop at  2:45:00 because I accidentally went over the week 1A reading.

Week 8: looking foward

What i want to explore in the future is the limits of my writing and crarive capability. I want to try new ways to write and news ways to put ideas my head on to paper. One of my biggest flaws that i want to fix is my grammer. Eventhough I proofread my work, there are still a lot of grammer mistakes. I have missed two assignments recently so I want to start assignments early. On the weekends, i am really busy so i need to work around that.

week 8: looking back

There are two stories i am  most proud of.  The first one was the war story and the second being the story about shaq. In these stories i attempted to step out of my comfort zone. After i finished them, it felt like trying new ways to write was a great idea. Of the two readings we had I liked ramayana the best. In mahabharata. Mahabharata was boring and i kinda had to push myself to actually complete the readings. However, in ramayana,i actually enjoyed the story and did not have to force myself to read it.  This was my first online class. At first it was hard to adjust to online work m6 assignments were late but as the semester went on i got better at it . Unfortunately,  as midterms are approaching my assignments are barely getting some on time. I usually do my assignments after my morning classes. I got to the library at around noon and finish it at the bizzell computer lab. I usually do not do curations because i can not of anything to write for them. Growth mindset on the other hand i like because they help me identify flaws in my own thinking and make me a better
person.

Week 7: StoryTelling

As swords clashed and arrows flew men were slain one by one. Each side suffered their own losses. I had lost my son and my brother had lost his too. They lost there commander Drona. When I saw my son die. I did not care about the outcome for the war. All i wanted was revenge. How could a great warrior such as him fall in such a away. I swore to myself that the only way to avenge my son was to stain the battle field in those bastard's blood.

So he did. Arjuna slayed thousands of men. Each one fell in one swing. The land was soaked. Everywhere he stepped the ground felt like mud. Even though it has not rained water in weeks.

Then i saw him....Karna stood in the midst of the battlefield.Thinking of only his son, Arjuna fought his way towards him. Finally no man stood between the two. The only way for him to truly avenge his son was to beat him in a duel.  "You know why I am here. Instead of killing you outright. On my pride as warrior, Let us have a fair fight to the death,". I said. Instead of exchange words Karna accepted by drawing his bow.

It seemed as if the battle field stopped. There were no clashing of swords, no whizzing of arrows through the air, Even the screams of men had stopped. The only thing on Arjuna's Mind was his son and the vengeance he swore. Each warrior shot countless arrows at each other. The sky grew dark with the arrows. Both men took blood and bleed themselves. It was then that one of Karna's arrow struck Arjuna's Gandiva bowstring. Arjuna stood there with no weapon. Karna noticed a took a paused for instant. As proud warrior, he thought Karna would give him the chance to restring his bow so they could fight fairly. Instead Karna started to relentlessly. Arjuna was struck many times but manage to restring his bow. Once restrung he manage to fire an arrow that pierced straight through Karna's foot and into his Achilles tendon. Karna fell down dropping his bow. Arjuna like Karna paused. "Can I really shoot a defenseless warrior? What kind of man would this made me?" Then he remember what happened. How his son was killed. How his wife was treated. He armed his bow and shot one single arrow that pierce though Karna. Even though he had abandoned is pride as warrior or that fact that he was in midst of war, he felt a slight bit of relief and happiness. '

Author's Note:
I wanted to capture Arunja's mindset when fighting Karna. I felt that a man who has seen his son slain and his wife abused would be good thing to right about. After all he had lost something that was very dear to him.  I tried using a little bit of narration in the story too but that something new I am trying,
Hopefully it does not make it confusing.

WEEK 7; READING DIARY B

The Wilson's version of Mahabharata is depiction of a battle go a dived royal family rather than a battle like the original. As we know Pandu was the king before his blind brother Dhritarashtra. After panda dies his brother takes the throne and the Pandu's are hated by Duryodhana. The princes are trained by drone. Struggle between the two faction show, while Arjuna one of the Panduavas archery skills are shown. Arujuna and Karna meet. As you can the seed the Wilson summarizes the version pretty well and focuses on the interaction between the characters. I liked the version better than the original Mahabharata because It was easier to read. His version cut out a lot of the backstory of some characters but that also made it less confusing. Like in Ramayana , there were too many characters in the original. He cut it down to the basic characters the Pandavas, Duryodhana, Draupadi, and Drona which added to the easier reading.  However he does forget to mention some major events. At the end the death of Krishna by the hunter and that the Pandavas and Raupdi choose to give there thrown to the grandson of Arujuna.  Also by cutting out things some acts like oath of revenge for Draupadi after the gamble match aren't as serious as they are in the original.

Week 6: Story Telling

Tyrone was always jealous of the Vargheses for their achievements they were awarded sought no end. These Vargheses were always winning everything. Life is east and pleasant for them,  Since he could not be the Vargheses in a fight, he thought of other ways to get his revenge. He knew Shaji on of the Vargheses had a gambling probelm. This is where he would strike.

One of Tyrone's good friends Jerome was a great gambler. No one could whether he was bluffing or if actually had anything. People assumed he would be cheating because none wins this constantly. Little did anyone know was that Jerome was an expert at counting cards. So poker was a simple children's game to him. Jerome accepted this challenge because he knew that Shaji did not know how to play poker and that he loved to gamble. He then stated, " For you Tyrone, Everything Shaji owns will be yours..His massive house in Gaillardia. His vast sea of gold he keeps, favorite wife Lysol, and everything he values will all be yours."

Tyrone loved the idea. So he went to his father, Ramone , to see if he could invite Shaji over to play a friendly game of cards. His counselors urged him to say no. they warned, "Thou Shaji may be a rich man...He is a savage beast who will not hesitate to beat a man.".Yet King Ramone agreed to Tyrone's idea and invite the Vargheses over.

When the Vargheses arrived they were amazed they had never seen a town like this. .There lights every flashing on and off. The city was bright, vibrant, and buzzing with activity. "So this is Las Vegas, It is quite different fro Gaillardia" said Shaji.  Lysol then responded, " Tyrone said to meet them in Caesars Palace." Eventually they found the Casino they were looking for. As they entered they were amazed that the Palace had no one inside. Then in the center was single poker table, Shaji sat down, Out from the dark came Tyrone and Jerome and other man, "Welcome to Sin city, I reserved all of Caesars Palace for this one event, "  said Tyrone.

As they sat down Jerome explained the rules of poker. He stated that his friend, Justin the ruler of Kansas, would be dealing the cards. Shaji accepted. Game after game, Shaji kept losing and Jerome kept winning, Jerome knew that Shaji's wealth was so massive that it take years to gamble it away. So he moved on to material things. "Lets make things interesting," he said.  Shaji again accepted. He lost his mansion, thousands of Mercedes Benz, and even sold his daughter Nimmy to be married to Justin the King of Kansas. The other Vargheses and his wife Lysol were shocked and told him to stop. He then said, " I will do one more hand."  Jerome agreed saying," Since this is the last hand, I will give you everything you have lost if you win but you must wager the freedom of your second daughter Nithi." They both shook  hands and agreed on the conditions. The next hand sealed Nithi's fate for Shaji lost and Nithi became Tyrone's slave.
