Week 13: curation

Using this link i tried to figure out who vikrim was. I did not know him and when i was reading Anu's story i wanted to learn more about the name vikrim.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikram_(name)

I used this link to find out what animals are important to hinduism. Since the fables are very heavy on their use of personification on animals, i thought it would be a good idea to brush up on the some knowledge for my readings.

Week 13: Tech tip

A tech tip i would like to share is youtube! Im sure every knows what youtube is  but it can teach pretty cool things. Just in this class the movies about mahabharata, Sita sings the blues, and the calendar videos helped alot extreme. They help elaborate the story in different ways and teach us about the gods in an entertaining way

Week 13: Famous last words

Thanksgiving week was great. Sunday was intense. My group decided to do our molecular biology the day before it due. We all thought it was due Wednesday but it turns out Monday at 11:20 was the actual date.  I ended up  it working on it from 10:00pm to 5:30am. My group then took over the rest until 10:00am, We checked it and turned it in.  Monday and Tuesday were really fun. my first class Monday was cancelled which amazingly cancelled the same day that my project was due. The day went as it usually did and I went to the rest of my classes. Tuesday, i had one class and then I had an essay to proofread before i had to turn it in. Later that day after my essay was turned in my brothers and some of friends from Church came to visit. This week was the last week my uncle and aunt were staying with us before they left back to India. We have family thanksgiving at my house and my mom cooked the turkey while I cooked the ham. The house was packed and no one left until 12:00am. After that I had my last shift at converse from 3:00am to 12:00pm. it was a fun shift. Not many people came but I had never been so tired in my life. Working there was really nice and people there were really cool. After I got off, Immediately went home to get some sleep. I only got five hours before i woke up. I went black friday shopping then slept until 12pm. Friday was the last for my aunt and uncle here. I was way to tired to go to the airport with but i said my goodbyes. The ice "storm" hit my neighbor hood pretty hard but we had power.

Week 13: Reading Feedback

My selections was based on two things accessibility and interest. I picked the fables because after reading one it was really interesting. The stories were unlike anything I have ever read in epics. What I liked most was that each fable was different than the other. It kept the reading fresh. If i didn't like one, the next one was sure to better

week 13: Growth Mindset

So there is a huge challenge ahead of me finals week is coming. There is one class that has been a huge problem for me and that was molecular biology. The class has been killing me on tests and I still have not figured out  that class. I'm just going to study the book hardcore and past tests for the final. THe average test grade in the class has been around 68 and i have been scoring a good 75 in class. This test i think i got it under control if i get 4hrs a day.

Week 13: story telling

Long ago, in land that had lucious forests,  beatiful citys, and grand armies lived a giant with five heads. This giant had 10 arms and an apitiet equal to no other. Each of the five heads had a different pwers. One could breathe fire, One could breathe ice, one was smart, one was evil and one was nice. The giant ravage the lands. It destroyed army after army, village after village and challenege even the gods. This giant even attacked yama, the god of the under world. Now then the giant was resurrected by the high preiest of the giants. The giant knowing how defeated he was began  praying to Mahdeva, the god of destriction. Author's note:
I didnt have any ideas. My original ideas was to do a story about marriage but my.story did make any sense. The orginal  story is about a giant with five is killed by warrior. A dragon then appears and is slayed by the warrior.

Week 13: reading diary A

This week i read Devi.Fables and Folklore. I have not attempted to read any of indian fables yet but I actual did like them. Looking at the reading Guide, it looks like a lot of reading but the fables are fairly short and pretty interesting one of my favorites was actually the very first one. It was a just a really different  take of the reflection of eye. Something I noticed in these chapters was the animals like Elephants, rabbits, dogs, frogs, and rats  occurred quite frequently. Another story that i liked was Ratnakar, the robbery thief. Ratnakar was man who worshiped Kali. He becomes a better way after a man tells him how can his wife and family approve of sins that he is doing. After a conversation with his wife he becomes better man.

Week 12: famous last words

This week was pure chaos. The Spanish II test ,which i felt the most prepared for, mad me so mad. Everyone in the class knew their stuff and we have a great teacher. However, The directions for the exam did not make sense, I could make out what they were saying but it did not make sense. The whole class agreed with this. The professor even showed us, who makes the test and to email them after class. On friday, I had my molecular the test. I came unprepared but I left super confident on the test. I thought it was funny how my "easy test" was actually the hard one and vice versa. Its is crazy hwo life works out sometimes. Diwali night was last saturday and I worked Thursday night , Friday night, and Saturday morning. IT was hard driving back and forth from  OKC and Norman but the dance went well. We somehow manage to get the whole dance down. Since we the last dance, we had to finish it off with a bang. I barley had any sleep so right the diwali night I had to crash at my friends apartment. I ended skipping church and then going to work

I loved this weeks reading.  It really made everything clear. I really do feel that this would be a great reading for the begjning of class. It came with a reading which helped alot. Each video was about 10 to 15 mintues long and there was multiple videos. I jogged while listenong to them instead of watching them and read the reading. It was truly my favorte read of the semester.

week 12: story telling

Once upon a time, there existed a small village. This village was same as any village. The village itself was only about one hundred people big. It had its farmers, warriors, husbands and wives just like any other place. However, this village had a deep dark secret that never let it prosper. Deep in the jungles next to the village live countless of demons. The warriors of this village grew strong and slayed almost every demon they came upon. Even though these men were swift and power, there was one demon they could not beat. The demon known as Raftel was being made of pure evil. The demon stood at seven feet tall and had human like form only stained in the blackest of black. The first thing you would see would be its piercing red eyes followed by malicious looking smile brought upon by it never ending appetite.  It sought nothing more to kill whether it was women or children. Warriors from different villages and cities would come by to challenge the demon but none of them would return. What made Raftel different from the others was not his strength or magical powers but his sheer speed. It has always been said that the demon could behead a man from a hundred meters away before the man noticed Raftel moved. there was one thing stopped this village getting slaughter. Where ever raftel came from he brought alone his hubris. He demanded that the village had two choices every month. They could offer one child as sacrifice or bring a warrior who could entertain Raftel. Years went by as Raftel stood undefeated and many mothers lost there children. However one fateful day a man arrived named  Khandoba. The man was renown across all small villages in the area because of his swordsmanship and unyielding tenacity.  Just by looking at him, you knew he was different from everyone else. The man was stronger than elephant and  Khandoba was the faster than the blink of an eye. Only armed with a shield and sword, He made his way into the dense jungle. "Raftel, Where are you! If you would like to meet your end meet me face to face," yelled  Khandoba. In seconds notice Raftel appeared inches away from  Khandoba's face with his piercing red eyes and his devious smile.   Khandoba did not flinch, he stood their strong glaring back at Raftel. They both jumped back as  Khandoba began drawing his sword. "Come..." spoke Raftel in a deep echoing voice.  Khandoba stroke first but Raftel defended him with his claws. Sparks shot out illuminating the jungle, as the blade touched his claws. clashing of metal on metal could be heard from the village. Fight lasted for hours. It was then did Khandoba managed to cut off one of Raftels arm. Once he was disarmed Raftel stood no chance.  Khandoba moved quick and swift as a gust of wind beheading Raftel in one stroke.

Authors note:
This story was hard to write. since my reading was about the hindu gods in general i was wonder what i could written about.I saw the detailed guide list Khandiva as local god of shiva who slay demon in villages and go off that.

Week 12: reading diary B

http://iereadingguides.blogspot.com/2014/10/reading-guide-pattanaik-week-1-videos.html

Last reading diary I said that these videos expound upon the religion which could made the epics a lot easier to understand. In Hinduism god is always limited to one form the idea of god is expressed through everything. It also within the form of three human couples: Brahma and Saraswati, Vishu and Lakshmi, and Shiva and Shakti. The males in these couples represent creation, sustaination, and destruction. It also signifies the you as an individual also known as the "observer".  While there wives represent wealth, knowledge, and power.  the wives also symbolize the observation. The Goddess Maya represents the absence of judgement and she looks at everyone on an equal plane. Man is a symbol for spiritual reality and women are the symbol for material reality. Spirituality reality is incomplete without material reality and vise versa. In the next video, it began the discussion over Shiva. Though Shiva is the god of destruction more specifically she is the destroyer of desire, death, and the three worlds. The goddess Kali helps Shiva opens his third eye so he does not destroy.  She therefore resurrects life and earth continue the cycle of rebirth that Shiva would of destroyed. The rest of the video informs us about his wife,Sati, and son, Kartikeya. One question I have above this reading is what are the three worlds? I have a couple of Ideas like karma and dharma or life, death , and rebirth.

Week 12: reading diary A

This week I decided to change my reading and make it about the Pattanaik. Videos. Even though  im jndian, i dont  know much about hinduism since i grew up as a christian. I dod know that the names of mahor gods like krishna, vishnu, and shiva. I dof jot know that shiva was consider the GOD while others are considered lesser gods.thwre are also doeties consider local gods like kandiva who is a local god of shiva.  Ganesha is also know as a god that hindus aspire towards cause the represents power nd a good life. These videos also showed basic ideas of hinduism.  I never thought avout it but hinduism onw of the only religion that believes in reincarnation.  This causes the sense of urgency that christians, myslims, and hebrews face is absent. I noticed that another hudge topic w a s the talk about creation and desctuction. Hindus believe in a cycle so when death does unfortunatly occur it is not the end. However, it is the sign thatmarks the begining of the cycle. They give a good metapjot they say we thing death as perod in a sentence while hindusism thinks of death as a comma in a sentence. This video is amazing. It gives alot information about the hindu gods snd goddeses. Truthfully speaking, this reading wouldgreat for a week 1 reading because it inteoduces you to all the gods. This would make the characters in ramayana and mahabharata  a lot less confusing and lot easier to understand.

week 11: Reading Feedback

I choose two different readings One was the movie about about Mahabharata and the other was a Song/poetic version of Mahabharata. I liked the movie alot, Thigs I never noticed or just did not understand were expounded upon by the movie. The Prose version of Mahabharata was not on the reading schedule we made. I could not get the comic book so I chose this. It was interesting. I never thought that someone would rewrite the epic in this way. There was a reading guide for both my Readings. They were actually helpful. In the movie, I felt that the first week required a lot more time than the other week. I spent five hours in total during the movie. ( I did fall asleep for 30min so i had to rewatch it) then the prose reading took about an hour or two. These version were both available online.

week 11: curation

I have been researching a little bit a more about Rama this week. since their epic is the basis for my story book, I think a refresher was needed. The first link covers Rama in general it just helps me remember what happens in the story. the next two links were used so that I could help write Ravana’s case towards Rama. Since we only see him a villain I wanted to shed more light about the good side of Ravana.

week 11: Growth Mindset

My main goal last week was just to stay afloat. Stay positive and just think ahead. yeah last week sucked but I managed to get it done. So far it helped me get ahead in most classes and get my work done in others. This week my goal is just getting ahead I can before my finals. I think if I can get my head into the right train of the thought and I can keep the coal pumping.I can study for these upcoming tests, do dance practice, and get through work and the
week and still have fun.

Week 11: Tech Tip

My tech tip this week is not for your computer but it is for your phone. So basically there different names for it for the iphone its called jail breaking and the android it is called rooting. Now people always say “don’t do it” or “ it will make your phone slower.” Yeah, that is true but only if you download a ton of junk. The reason I do it is that it helps keep me organized. I have not done it to my new phone but when i had ill i did was make subtle changes and it too my own personal liking

Week 11: famous last words

This week went a lot better than the last one. I bought a new pair of running shoes last week. So far they are literally the most comfortable thing i have ever worn. I worked out with them and i jogged with them but I have not actually broken them in. I started a new workout so that I can dunk on basketball. I could not start it yet because I am dancing for Diwali night but I already got everything. Even Though this coming week is packed full of tests, I am not really stressed. I made schedule to get me through the week. Monday and Sunday I used for finishing this class work. On Monday afternoon, I have to study for Spanish and Mondays reading and Do sociology homework. Tuesday, I have one class, I'm going to study for my Spanish test on Wednesday and then I study for m molecular biology test on Friday. Also On Tuesday I have to fit dance practice in so I do not miss steps on thist Saturday. Wednesday, I will just finish studying Spanish and get pretty deep into molecular. Thursday, I work most of the day so I have to do some late night reviewing and Friday I have work. Saturday, I work in the morning so Afterwards I would have to drive back to Norman and get my dance ready. Finally, Sunday I also have work. On every night this week, I have to finish these assignments before I sleep. SO far this schedule looks good to me. I just wished the rest of the weeks were as east as this one.  I think the last week was the final week where i will behind. We have been practicing for Diwali night all week, so far I think we will get the dance down by then.

Now he had reigned king over this land
Till he it was his time pass
His brother who was born blind had to take command
Pandu had five sons, whose caliber where of the highest class

However the blind old man was not bare
He had a son named duryodhana
You could call him man whos hate was hot as a volcana'
This boy always held a grudge aganst the fantastic five
Yet he could not get these boys to just stop being alive
He tried mentally, physically, and even unrealistically
but these five stayed strong, whoerent just all brawn

Now all these men trained tried and true
Under a man name Drona
Duro's hate only grew
For Pandus were only geting stronga'

As time grew only so did these men

Until Duro took one to far. I guess he had some bad temperament
Everyone took a chill. Until my main man Arjuna came with his song

Aint no man that has ever been fit enough to play
Until this man karna came out

But throughout the crowd no one wanted to jump the gun
One side roared "Arjuna" while the roared  "Karna"
Now there was no clear victor in sight, but nah nah

Author's Note:

It covered the beginning and the tournament between the cousins. So decided to take it one step further and make it into a rap. Enjoy my first single under the name Lil Pandu. Hopefully, I will number one on the billboard charts!

week 11: Reading diary

I noticed that these books only cover major parts f the story. the last one covered the tournament between the kandavas and pandavas. Book II covered the whole marriage of Arujun and Draupadi. However they stopped before a critical part. They left out that the promise from the mother to the sons. I think it basically said they would share everything. So they would have share Draupadi. The story starts off with the 5 Pandus hearing about the wedding assembly. They go and they ask the suitors, “Mark this bow, assembled monarchs, and the target hung an high,Through yon whirling piercéd discus let five glist'ning arrows fly,Whoso, barn of noble lineage, hits the far suspended aim,Let him stand and as his guerdon Drupad's beauteous maiden claim!" Aruja accomplishes the task and the story ends. Compared to the original, This story is alot more eloquent and beautiful. While it deserved in some places like the quote mentioned above, too much of it makes characters seem more distant.

week 11: Reading Diary A

Originally, I planned on reading a comic book abut Krishna but I did not have enough time to check out the book. When I first read the reading, it said "English verse" at the very top. I did not make much of it but as it continued past the epilogue or introduction, the story was writing in prose. This certain was the most interesting read i have done so far. At first it was hard to follow but as I went through it just sounded more and more like rap lyrics.  The story starts off by giving a quick rundown of scene of the epic then like the original Mahabharata by describing the Pandu and his brother. It follows the story and hits major plot points like the competition and the match between Arjun and Karna. I found that having ambient music playing the background makes the prose easier to read. I just youtubed, "Epic music" and played the first one on low.

Week 10:Famous Last words

These past few weeks have been crazy. My molecular test was really hard and was to busy with my new job to get much studying done. It was terrible time to get that job but i cant turn it down since it provides really good experience and I was really luckily to even get it in the first place. So far i am working Thursday at my old job and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 3pm to 11pm. The pay is well but my time to homework is taking a hit. I still need to do my story which I am way too far behind in but I can get that done Monday night.  This week I had family from Chicago come. It was fun hanging out with even though I came back super late. They only stayed one day before they had to continue towards Dallas. I have a sociology test on Tuesday but surprisingly I am not worried about that class. Its a pretty easy class and whose test surprisingly consist of vocab. Hopefully i am getting overconfident from my last test and bomb this one. My only goal this week is to get as much work i can get done by Thursday night since my weekends are so busy.

Week 10, Review

HULK

Hulk smash won the announcements of this week! I have always been obsessed with the character Hulk. When we see someone, we cannot judge what power he or she hold inside him or her. We can never estimates what someone is capable of doing. When hulk is not mad, he is capable of being an ordinary normal human being, however, when anger take control of him, he unleash his powers. I mainly chose this announcement because of the picture that was provided. Link
